Prepare the workstation¶
Goal: prepare the one workstation shared by VLA Pipeline, Self Improvement Learning, and ABC Box.
For TurtleBot3, first choose an operator environment matching the robot; this workstation specification does not establish ROS compatibility.
1. Check the delivered computer¶
Compare it with the workstation specification: the RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition (96 GB) plus the agreed CPU, memory, storage, and network and USB connections. The supplier confirms that the case, motherboard, power supply, and cooling support the card.
2. Position and connect it¶
- Place the computer where its vents stay clear and no robot can reach it.
- Connect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and the approved power cord.
- Connect the workstation to the lab switch/router with Ethernet.
- Label the workstation, its network cable, and the ports used by each platform.
- Arrange a backup destination and enough free storage for the expected recordings.
Keep power strips, connectors, and loose cable loops away from the robots and walkways, and follow the supplier's electrical and ventilation requirements.
3. Plan the device connections¶
Each platform's guide has a connection map. In summary:
| Platform | Data connections |
|---|---|
| VLA Pipeline | Two control boxes by Ethernet through the shared switch; five cameras and up to two headsets by USB |
| Self Improvement Learning | The Go2's onboard computer over the lab network; the front D435i connects to the onboard computer, and the wrist camera's host is to confirm |
| ABC Box | Three cameras and four CAN channels (two followers, two leaders), assigned to the workstation or included Box PC by the supplier's connection plan |
Plan to test all of a platform's camera views together after its equipment and software are ready. Use an approved powered hub only where the layout calls for one.
4. Check before handover¶
- GPU, CPU, memory, and storage are recorded.
- Power, cooling, monitor, keyboard, and mouse work.
- Workstation networking is available and device connections are planned.
- Cameras and headsets have labeled, data-capable cables ready for assembly.
- USB ports are allocated for all required camera views.
- Storage, backup, and shared use of the computer are arranged.
